Font - Posted by u/ally00ps My coworker quit out of frustration, and my employers are telling everyone she was fired. I work for a small nonprofit that has been doing a sh job retaining their employees lately, due to treating us poorly and other shibehaviors. Recently, one of my coworkers quit out of frustration, which I feel like was basically a constructive dismissal because she was pretty much pushed to the point of being forced to quit.

Font - For the sake of brevity, I'm not going to go through all the problems that we've been dealing with, but I wanted to ask people about this particular issue. This coworker and I had been talking the whole time, commiserating on our shoy treatment and trying to figure out what we could do. She made several formal complaints, and included me in them. Ultimately, they told us not to talk to each other anymore (wtOright?), but of course we did, because they absolutely can't tell us we can't tal

Font - She told me, and only me, that she was planning to turn in her stuff and quit without notice at her next shift, which was on a Saturday. Our bosses did not know that she was going to do this. On Friday (the day before she quit), they sent out an email to all the staff saying she no longer worked there. Of course I told her about it, and she was floored. Nobody had told her she didn't work there any longer, even though that was what she was going to tell our bosses the next day.

Font - Anyway, she quit that Saturday without discussing it with anyone - just turned in her stuff and walked away. Since then, I've talked to my supervisor about everything that happened. Of course, my supervisor wouldn't disclose any information, but she told me that my coworker was terminated. I asked my coworker about it, and she said "wto no I wasn't fired, I quit" and showed me her letter of resignation.

Font - I can't imagine what she could have been terminated for, other than retaliation for making valid complaints. So isn't it super fud up that they are telling everyone that she was fired, even though they never said anything of the sort to her?

Font - youngboomer62 This is a form of abuse by the employer on its former and current employees. I would start a "whisper campaign" to ensure all current employees are aware of the management dishonesty as it will snowball if they get away with it. 461 Reply Share

Font - RageWynd Maybe her being fired would work to her advantage, proof to file unemployment (if you're in the US.) 81 Reply Share ally00ps OP Definitely it would, except they never even told her she was fired. She only has evidence of her quitting. And she does know there's a chance of getting unemployment if she can prove constructive dismissal due to retaliation, she is currently feeling too sad and traumatized from the whole experience to even try to find a lawyer for that. Also, I don't kn

Font - TrogdorBurns That's pretty common. A lot of places will accept your resignation for x date and then immediately fire you the same day. They assume you won't do much during your last two weeks and just tell you to kick rocks. Most people don't realize that they can and should collect unemployment for those two weeks. A lot of times people don't apply because it'll be months before they get a pittance of an unemployment check for the two weeks they weren't working. Everyone should apply for

Font - MaximumUtility Me This happened to me. I couldn't believe it. Didn't find out until a recruiter went to verify work history by calling the company. Reply Share 2
